The American Music Awards red carpet is often adorned with daring wardrobe choices. Since they are musicians and entertainers, they are well-versed in dramatic manner. Kim Petras paid homage to Britney Spears with her choice of clothing. She particularly replicated the renowned denim dress Britney Spears memorably wore to the AMAs in 2001. (with then-boyfriend Justin Timberlake in a matching denim tuxedo, no less).
One of the most well-known red carpet ensembles from the AMAS was Spears’ patchwork denim gown, which she wore with a similar jean bag and a crystal choker necklace. It’s understandable that Petras was motivated to recreate the style. She did this by donning a strapless, 2000s-style denim dress from Blumarine’s spring 2023 collection. It had a purposefully faded wash, studded piping, and a large “B” belt buckle (for Blumarine, though it might equally be read as Britney in this context). Petras matched the outfit with a denim purse, just like the Princess of Pop, except she substituted a large cross necklace for the crystal choker. Although Petra didn’t have a date wearing a matching denim suit, her look was the ideal homage to one of the most memorable AMAs fashion moments ever.
