The Grey’s Anatomy alum takes on a recurring role in Hulu’s comedy murder mystery. According to EW, the Grey’s Anatomy alum has been hired in a recurring role for season 3 of Hulu’s humorous murder-mystery series. Williams will portray “a documentarian with a particular interest in the case,” which sounds like he’s coming for the jobs of Charles (Steve Martin), Mabel (Selena Gomez), and Oliver (Martin Short) according to the official character description. Who will solve the murder this season first?
After revealing that podcast producer Poppy (Adina Verson) was Bunny’s (Jayne Houdyshell) real killer, the funny whodunnit’s season 2 finale finished with a startling time leap surprise. The final scene cut to Charles and new character Ben Glenroy (Paul Rudd), who are unmistakably antagonistic for an unexplained reason, on the first night of Oliver’s Broadway directorial return. In the first scene, Ben passes away onstage, changing the course of their glorious evening. Mabel, who was in the crowd, ends the season with the appropriate statement, “You’ve got to be f—-ing kidding me.”
According to Only Murders in the Building creator John Hoffman, “Season 1 was really concentrated around a Mabel narrative, and then Charles and his father emotionally dominated season 2 in many ways, so it feels fitting to lean onto Oliver a bit more and his hope of a future return.” We reset them a little bit, reset their world, and yet the Arconia is still very present in season 3. “So that’s where it started to feel like we can go into the theatre and imagine a break between them so that we have fodder for what happened in that year jump, and where are they when we join them in season 3 around this new problem they have.”
Williams is best known for his twelve seasons as Dr. Jackson Avery on Grey’s Anatomy, where he will return to both direct and star in an episode of season 19. He most recently received a Tony Award nomination for his Broadway debut in the production of Take Me Out. He will soon be seen with Reese Witherspoon in Your Place or Mine. Additionally, he has made appearances in a number of films and TV episodes, such as Little Fires Everywhere, The Cabin in the Woods, Brooklyn’s Finest, and others.
